The wine of Château d'Issan has been talked about since the 12th century, as it was served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet in 1152. From this event, it takes its motto, written in Latin on the label: “Regum mensis aris que deorum” (meaning “For the table of kings and the altar of the gods”).
