Seller description
Chartogne-Taillet, based in the village of Merfy in northern Champagne, is one of the rising stars in grower Champagne. The estate is led by Alexandre Chartogne, who trained under Anselme Selosse of the legendary Jacques Selosse estate. This mentorship shaped Alexandre’s deep respect for terroir and his commitment to minimal intervention winemaking. Cuvée Sainte Anne Brut is the estate’s flagship wine, named after the patron saint of the village. It is a village blend dominated by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a touch of Meunier. The wine reflects the chalky, sandy soils of Merfy, emphasizing salinity, tension, and precision over fruit-forward exuberance. Vinified using native yeasts, aged on lees, and with limited dosage, Sainte Anne expresses a clear, honest sense of place, reminiscent of Selosse’s philosophy but with Chartogne’s own elegant interpretation. Aromas of citrus zest, toasted brioche, white flowers, and crushed stone. The palate is creamy yet vibrant, with fine bubbles, saline precision, and a long, nutty, mineral-driven finish.
