Seller description

Opinion of our oenologist IA The 1988 Château Montrose of Saint-Estèphe, Médoc, is an exceptional red wine that beautifully reflects its terroir. Made in the prestigious Saint-Estèphe appellation, this Bordeaux comes from the Je Charmolue cuvée, characterized by a traditional blend of grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The 1988 vintage is renowned for its longevity and complexity, offering advanced aromas of black fruit, leather and undergrowth. The gravelly soils and the influence of the Gironde estuary bring a mineral complexity and a remarkable tannic structure. Château Montrose has an illustrious history, long known for producing robust and elegant wines, perfect for keeping. To accompany this 1988 Château Montrose, choose dishes such as the herbal roast lamb leg, a duck breast accompanied by roasted figs, or a filet mignon with ceps. Game dishes, such as a deer civet, would also blend perfectly, highlighting the undergrowth and black fruit aromas of the wine. For an authentic regional pairing, opt for a leg of Pauillac or ripened cheeses such as a Saint-Nectaire or a well-refined County. To taste this wine at its peak, serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C. Decant it one hour before serving it to allow the aromas to fully open. During the tasting, first observe the deep purple dress with slightly tiled highlights. Then, smell the glass to capture all the aromatic complexity: notes of blackcurrant, truffle, leather and tobacco will amaze you. Finally, taste the time to enjoy each sip, enjoy the balance between silky tannins and refreshing acidity, which give this wine all its grandeur and aging potential.
