Seller description

Mouton Rothschild Pauillac Protected Designation of Origin and Great Classed Growth The wines of Chateau Mouton Rothschild This is another property of the Rothschild family, but on the English side. This Grand Cru Classe Chateau Mouton Rothschild (Pauillac designation) is located on the left bank of the Gironde, near Bordeaux, not far from Chateau Armailhac, which is a Fifth Great Classed Growth, property of Baron Philippe de Rothschild's family. The vineyard covers 91 hectares of a single plot of vines that grow on gravel, sandy-clay soils, and lays on a limestone-marl base. The vines are about 44 years old and are grown according to the sustainable winegrowing principles. Two Red Bordeaux are produced in Domaine Mouton Rothschild: “Chateau Mouton Rothschild”, and a second small wine Monton Rothschild's “Petit Mouton” (since 1993), which is mainly made from the youngest vines of Mouton Rothschild estate. These two blended wines are made from 4 different grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (78%), Merlot (18%), Cabernet Franc (3%), and Petit Verdot (1%) that are used in different proportions, depending on the vintage and the cuvee. A larger share of Merlot and Carbernet Franc has been used in the second “Petit Mouton” wine Since 1991, Chateau Mouton Rothschild has also been producing the Great Bordeaux Blanc wine called “Aile d'Argent”, in the Bordeaux designation and with the following white grape varieties: Sauvignon Blanc (54%), Semillon (33%), Sauvignon Gris (12%) and Muscadelle (1%). Of exceptional quality, Chateau Mouton Rothschild is often ranked, far ahead of everyone else, at the top level of the classification of 1855, and it even got its ranking reconsidered to be listed as a Pauillac First Classed Growth.
