This bottle of champagne is one of two that my great-grandfather received as a gift from a German officer of the Wehrmacht sometime in the 1940s. The first bottle has been opened a long time ago, and this is the only one left. It is actually one of the very few bottles still intact, that has been confiscated by the German army during the Nazi occupation of France in World War Two and marked as their property. It's stamped on the front in German: Wehrmachts – Marketenderware Verkauf in Freien Handel verboten – Sales in the Free Market are Prohibited and in French: Reserve à la Wehrmacht, Achat et Revente interdits – Reserved for German Army – Not for Resale or Purchase It has been stored away from sunlight and heat in an upright position. This is one fine collector's item and great WWII memorabilia.
