Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquires the castle in 1853 but the legend "Mouton" really begins in 1922, with Baron Philippe de Rothschild. At 21 years old and moved by ambitions full of originality, he decides to dedicate his life to forging for the vintage an identity and world renown, which from its earliest hours has radiated on the image of Bordeaux as a whole. In 1924, in the face of numerous deviations occurring among Bordeaux merchants, the owner inaugurated the "full bottling at the castle". In 1945, to celebrate the Liberation, the "V" of Victory crowned the etiquette of the vintage, an initiative that marked the beginning of a series of original works created each year by famous painters. In 1973, when no change was ever granted in the 1855 classification, Baron Philippe obtained - not without difficulty - the revision and Mouton officially joins the elite of the Premiers Grands Crus Classés of Bordeaux. After her death in 1988, her daughter Philippine took over the reins, assisted by an unrivaled technical team, and still successfully maintains her father's projects. Most of the vintages offer opulence, richness and depth, enhanced by a remarkable aromatic complexity ranging from blackcurrant to roasted coffee, mint and fine leather.
