In the early 20th century Armand Rousseau, created the estate after having inherited from several vinestock plots in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. The appellation Chambertin, located between the vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin and Morey-Saint-Denis, has a considerably high average vine age - about 40 to 45 years. Up until now, the configuration of the land has not been favorable to mechanisation, hence working the land remains with the help of a horse and a plow. With an area spanning 15 hectares, more than two of them are devoted to Chambertin - East oriented. For many years now, the refusal to use insecticides, fertiliser or any chemical supplements seems to have become the Castle's trademark, in its fight towards a more organic viticulture.
The traditional vinification process is maintained with minimum manipulation of the wines. The ageing is carried out in oak barrels (100% new), during a period of 18 months. Considered the Kings' wine, its masculinity and strength reveals aromas of chocolate, licorice and black fruits.
Grape variety : Pinot Noir 100%.
Annual production : 65 000 bottles.
